Overview: This course is designed for the night vision user that wants to push beyond the typical training industry concept of a 6 hour lecture on how NODs work with a smattering of flat range shooting.

This class is focused on application of the technology into the full gamut of common tasks from instructors with decades of professional night vision use. Topics include:

  • Equipment Setup & Optimization
  • Pistol/Carbine
    • Zeroing Concepts
    • Positional work
    • Use of cover
    • Transitions
    • Performance development
  • Observation and target detection skills
  • Active vs Passive vs White light vs Thermal: When and why
  • Vehicle rigging and off-road/loose surface driving
  • Rural Movement/Navigation
  • Interior structure movement: overcoming mixed lighting challenges

Prerequisites: You must be a safe, reasonably competent shooter to attend this course and should have prior formal pistol/carbine training. You should also be in reasonable physical condition. You must be a US Citizen. Please contact us with any questions.

Location: Ben Franklin Range, Templeton PA: 1100 acres, 65 miles of off-road tracks, square ranges, UKD ranges, & shoot house. Onsite lodging available for $70/night.

Packing List:

  • Carbine with sling, light, optic, IR laser/illuminator, 5 magazines, 1000 rounds
  • Pistol w/RDS, light, 3 magazines, holster, 300 rounds
  • Belt with mag pouches, clear eye protection, active hearing protection, food/water/caffeine
  • Weather appropriate clothing & handwarmers (recommend Gore-Tex boots, wool socks, waterproof shell, insulation layers)
  • NODS
  • For the optional driving portion, you will drive whatever you brought. There are enough traversable dirt roads for standard vehicles. However, if you chose to be adventurous and want to push yourself on some of the more challenging trails, we recommend:
    • Off-road capable vehicle: i.e. Toyota 4Runner TRD, Tacoma TRD, Jeep with good tires
    • Spare fluids and fuel
    • Recovery Equipment: i.e. soft shackles, hitch adaptor, snatch rope
    • IR Driving Lights, i.e. Lightforce
    • GPS (Garmin Tread, Overlander) or iPhone with OnX Off-Road
